Going home

There I stood admiring the marble panels in the men’s room on the second-story floor of the Russell Senate Office Building, and it struck me: my job is awesome.

The night before, my client and I worked late developing marketing materials, bouncing ideas off each other, refining our message, strategizing, and planning next year’s Big Event.  We probably should have called it quits early in the evening and gotten some rest.  But who can sit still when they’re slated to meet a senator the next morning?

Flush.

I finished up in the senatorial bathroom (yes, I washed my hands!).  Then I headed up an impressive staircase to an office where my client and I had an enjoyable meeting with the senator and some of his aids.

Introductions, plesantries, presentations, discusions, and suggestions were made.  Follow ups were assured.  Well-wishes were given.  Good byes were said.  The senator left to go vote on a matter that would affect The Future of the United States.

Tomorrow, after almost a week of meetings on the road, I fly back to Maine.  I’ll take with me a few valuable new contacts, a profound appreciation for well-run meetings, and the gratitude for having a career  that takes me to places I normally wouldn’t go.
